Main Street Art Explosion

Abstract, industrial, portraiture and sculptural art that is uniquely Akron.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with the team behind the Main Street Art Explosion, a group of unique and highly talented artists in North East Ohio. This was their first event together and they showcased abstract, industrial, portraiture and sculptural art that was uniquely Akron.

So many from the community stopped out to support their efforts in a venue that could only be found downtown. Situated on the 6th floor of an old warehouse building, John C Comunale from Communale Sculptural Concepts, hosted it in his workshop and showed off his talent for metal sculpture. He has designed custom work for signage for large corporations, Cuyahoga Falls trailheads and more. Definitely check out his work!

The team team members included, David Bryan Lile, with his lively, colorful and industrial imagery, along with Laura Lenke of LOLO KNOWS who truly is a multimedia artists, bringing her unique talents which blended performance arts, mixed media abstracts and DJing. James Cooper also came and talked photography and showed off several projects unique to this area.

It's amazing to see the infusion of art in this area of Akron, which typically doesn't receive this sort of attention. Good to see this community involvement in a uniquely Akron way.

The venue was a blast to explore, but the lighting conditions were tough. I shot with the Panasonic GH5 and the 25mm f1.4 for the majority of the evening, with a few of the establishing shots, using the 12-35 f2.8 in John's shop. I locked the ISO to 1600 but probably could have gone higher without a huge jump in noise. In the future, I would have used S priority and locked in a higher shutter speed. In low light, I was bitten by motion blur. That said, if you are in these conditions, instead of trying to shoot in dark spaces, try to bring people to lit areas and concentrate shooting there.
